Collective Gallery – Simon and Tom Bloor

Structure for the City Observatory
Collective Gallery, Edinburgh

Structure for the City Observatory was a viewing platform and sculptural installation fabricated for the artists Simon and Tom Bloor. Their collaborative practice focuses on our often ambivalent relationship to the construction and use of public space.

We worked with the artists to create theatrical sandstone blocks, which were positioned to give the impression they were in a state of collapse, tumbling out of the observatory gate.

The blocks were made from mitred boxes of moisture resistant black Valcromat MDF. A dusted spray coating was applied to all surfaces to resemble solid sandstone and the artists finished the artwork by applying graffiti spray paint.
