Aidan O’Rouke – 365 Project

Aidan O’Rouke – 365 Project

In 2013, Scottish poet and novelist James Robertson wrote a short story every day of the year – each story was 365 words, no more, no less. Scottish fiddler and composer Aidan O’Rourke then matched the challenge. He wrote a new tune every day for a year in response to James’s stories. This sound-art installation shares that work, allowing visitors to listen to the story or tune of any chosen day – or both together.

We worked closely with the client group from consultation, through to design, fabrication and delivery of the project. The installation was constructed from a range of contemporary and traditional materials, which complemented the 365 project. The installation incorporated bespoke electronic hardware and software, which had to be easily accessible for maintenance. The installation also had to come apart, be lightweight and easy to assemble again for a busy touring schedule.
Premiering at the 2019 Edinburgh International Book Festival, the installation has received critical acclaim and is to tour around the whole of Scotland and beyond.
