Dundee International Design Festival

Dundee International Design Festival

Dundee International Design Festival was a 4-day event, showcasing a wide range of design-focused exhibitions, celebrating Dundee becoming the UK’s first UNESCO City of Design in 2014.

Old School Fabrications was commissioned to transform the enormous former industrial print works of publishers D C Thomson, into an exciting festival venue. In collaboration with curator Sion Parkinson, we designed and fitted out the space that consisted of three separate galleries, all containing modular exhibition furniture. Each exhibitors’ stand was then uniquely tailored suit their requirements. A café, flexible workshop space and performance area were also created.

The design of the exhibition stands took inspiration from the distinctive architecture of the building’s roofline. Coloured window gels in cyan, magenta and yellow provided a flood of colour that celebrated the inks once used in the print works.
