Edinburgh University – Modular Exhibition System

Edinburgh University – Modular Exhibition System

Designed by Sir Basil Spence, Edinburgh University Library is an amazing place of learning and study. It also has an excellent public exhibition space, hosting exhibitions ranging from meteorites to World War II escape maps, rare books, anatomical specimens and contemporary art. The exhibition’s showcase the University’s vast and varied heritage collections and it has been our pleasure to be involved in many of the shows put on there over the years. Recently Old School Fabrications were approached to realise a modular exhibition system that could be used for multiple display configurations.

Working closely with the design agency Studio SP, we carried out the construction design, build and installation of this modular system. Each frame was made from steel and aluminium hollow section, then finished with a hardwearing black powdercoat. A range of connector plates were CNC cut to allow for multiple arrangements. The system allows for graphic panel integration as well as temporary showcasing.

This lightweight flexible system is easy and quick to assemble. It can be stored efficiently and has already been used for a number of exhibitions.
