Local Heroes

Local Heroes
Edinburgh Airport

Local Heroes showcased the work of 9 Scottish based contemporary designers. The project was instigated and curated by Dr Stacey Hunter and the products on display ranged from fashion garments, textile design and graphic work. The project was part of Scotland’s Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design 2016.

Old School Fabrications were commissioned to design, build and install a unique ‘pop up’ exhibition space at Edinburgh International Airport. The converted shipping container featured a bespoke illuminated exterior light box and a five meter long sign made from steel and CNC cut plywood letters. The overall visual style was designed with careful consideration given to showing off each of the exhibits whilst still attempting to create an artistic sculptural installation.

The exhibition was estimated to receive an audience of over 1 million passengers in August 2016, however due to the exhibition being housed within an easily transportable shipping container, it is anticipated that Local Heroes will reach even more people in the future.
