Green Oak Benches
National Trust of Scotland
Culloden Battlefield

Design and fabrication of six bespoke benches, to be situated at Culloden Battlefield and constructed from locally sourced green oak. The benches incorporated poetry which referenced the historic battle and it’s implications, using the words of celebrated poet Aonghas MacNeacail. The lettering was routered into the timber using a customised font and laser cut templates.

The battle of Culloden was a complicated and brutal exchange, and this influenced our design of jarring complex angles of raw heavy timber. The oak was left untreated to age and silver naturally, blending into the forest and moorland environment.
