Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art – Colour of Summer

Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art – Colour of Summer

Following on from the continued success of previous years, the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art again commissioned Old School Fabrications to design, build and install another outdoor bespoke summer attraction. The result was a playful promotional environment that took inspiration from the 2018 summer exhibition, Emil Nolde – Colour is Life.

Colour of Summer is best described as a playground extraordinaire situated on the lawn in front of the Modern One gallery, Edinburgh and is inspired by the bright, bold and contrasting colours found in the works of one of Europe’s most celebrated 20th century colourists.

The fun play space successfully helped to bring a large family audience to the gallery. It also doubled up as a venue for summer family workshops and events organised by the educational department of the Gallery. The structures we’re easy to dismantle and were donated to a local school to re-use.
