The Egg Shed – Giant Egg
Opened in summer 2019. The Egg Shed is a brand-new heritage centre and community hub operated by Scottish Canals. It’s the latest milestone marker in the regeneration of Ardrishaig Harbour on the Crinan Canal. Old School Fabrications were appointed to create a bespoke and fun centre piece for this exciting new building.
Working from the initial concept and community consultation, Old School Fabrications were commissioned by the design agency Four-By-Two, to carry out the construction design, fabrication and installation of a giant sculptural egg. All of the component parts were meticulously designed before being CNC cut. Each piece of white laminated birch ply slots together to create the egg form. The interior is finished with an ash bench and acts as a booth where you can immerse yourself in the tales of Mid-Argyll’s fascinating past, audible through discreetly integrated speakers.
