The Peoples Museum of Memory and Myth – Hans K Clausen

Designed in collaboration with artist Hans K Clausen, The People’s Museum of Memory and Myth is an art installation in the form of a bespoke display cabinet of curiosities. It is installed in the foyer of the Pennywell All Care Centre in Edinburgh. The artwork consists of 9 vitrines each populated with objects collected from communities and individuals within North West Edinburgh.

Referencing old local railroads, the cabinet stands on eight cast iron wheels taken from an early 20th century train station bogey. The design of the stacked multi coloured valchromat vitrines draws inspiration from piles of travel-trunks or transportation crates, giving the artwork a transient quality.

The cabinet features hermetically sealed steel frames, security glass fronts, adjustable shelves and dimmable LED lighting. The design provides a display build capable of being adjusted to suit an evolving collection of objects.
